Our One Life Foods® Irish Sea Moss & Bladderwrack capsules feature premium Irish moss and Bladderwrack sourced from the coastlines of the "Wild Atlantic Way" in Ireland. We opted for capsules over bulk moss due to their ease of consumption and higher bioavailability compared to gels.
Sustainably harvested off Ireland's West coast by a multi-generational family, our sea moss and Bladderwrack suppliers deeply understand the importance of marine life and adopt an ecosystem-friendly approach to harvesting, emphasising conservation and sustainable practices.
Irish Sea Moss (Chondrus crispus) is the authentic sea moss, growing for only a short period annually, limiting the harvestable quantity. Consequently, it tends to be more expensive than tropical sea moss varieties, like Gracilaria, which grow year-round in tropical waters. While often termed Irish moss, these tropical varieties differ and belong to the Gracilaria genus, consisting of around 190 species, with only a few used for human consumption or medicinal purposes.
Our sourced sea moss is genuinely "wildcrafted," a rarity in today's market where 97% of seaweed comes from farmed sources, predominantly in Southeast Asia. Many products claiming to be "wildcrafted" are not, and in some cases, they aren't even from the regions advertised. Although Chondrus can be farmed, it has generally not been a profitable endeavour, making wild-crafted sources more prevalent.
